Meet Shaun Howlett: Local Leadership for ZaheZone Inverell

Shaun grew up in the small rural town of Eugowra in Central West New South Wales and has called Inverell home since 2017. He lives locally with his young family and understands what makes the region such a good place to live and do business.

For Shaun, Inverell offers the right mix of rural lifestyle and regional capability. People still stop for a chat, businesses know their customers and relationships matter. That same sense of connection shapes how he works with ZaheZone clients.

Shaun’s interest in technology began during his school years, when he could usually be found pulling apart computer hardware and building what he describes as “Frankenstein machines” from whatever spare parts he could find. In 2009, he turned that curiosity into a career through an IT traineeship with a computer repair business.

He entered the industry when “the cloud” was still something people checked for rain. As a result, Shaun developed a strong hands-on foundation across servers, workstations, networking equipment and onsite infrastructure.

That experience gives him a practical understanding of how business technology fits together. Whether an organisation operates onsite, in the cloud or somewhere in between, Shaun can look beyond an individual fault and consider the wider infrastructure supporting the business.

He also spent several years in restaurant management, an experience that taught him a great deal about people, pressure and keeping a business running when things get busy. It reinforced something that remains central to his approach today: a technology problem is rarely just a technology problem. It can quickly affect staff, customers, productivity and the business owner trying to hold everything together.

Regional businesses face their own technology challenges. Distance, connectivity, ageing infrastructure and limited onsite support can all influence what will work in practice.

Metropolitan providers can sometimes assume the same solution will work everywhere. Shaun believes regional businesses need someone who understands local conditions, can meet with them in person or attend onsite when required, and knows them by name rather than by ticket number.
